This is my first real post in ages.

I'm looking forward to tonight. A cozy little get together with a few friends at their flat. I've been invited so many times over there, so tonight I'm bringing a big plant to thank them.

I love the Chandeleur. It was this wednesday, and so far I've eaten crêpes yesterday for dinner, today for lunch, and tonight with my friends. I could eat crêpes everyday in my life and not get bored with it.
Easter is nothing compared to that holiday!

Not only do the French eat a lot of crêpes on Chandeleur, but they also do a bit of fortune telling while making them. It is traditional to hold a coin in your writing hand and a crêpe pan in the other, and flip the crêpe into the air. If you manage to catch the crêpe in the pan, your family will be prosperous for the rest of the year."

Don't you love it when journalists say things that were true 50 years ago, but which has disappeared by now. I never heard of that tradition of fortune telling!

It's a crêpe made with another kind of flour, so you can eat salted food with it.

I usually add an egg, salt and pepper, lots of cheese and ham. It's delicious.

Also, my friend who studies French was wondering how you pronounce crêpe.We think we're pronouncing it right, but we aren't sure.

I took four years of French in high school, which meant four years of "cultural potlucks" where I had far too many crepes and quiches. It made me hate French food.

But my husband found a crepery in our neighborhood and convinced me to go last weekend, and THIS WAS SO DIFFERENT. Common sense, really, they were made by someone from France and not a high school student. But ours were made with a darker wheat flour too and so I was stunned that not only was I eating French food, but it wasn't laden with butter and cream and fat.

A week ago I would have seen this post and said BLEEEECHHH. Funny how that works.
